HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM RESTORATION

Pro-AutoSerra Brake Restoration List:
1) Inspecting all the mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components in both the front and rear brakes. Calipers, caliper hardware, Wheel Cylinders, Drums, Drum hardware, Parking Brake, Brake pad wear Sensors and ABS.
2) Replacing the front and rear brake pads or shoes (if necessary).
3) Inspecting or replacing brake discs (rotors). Brake discs require a clean, smooth, flat surface, otherwise brake performance will suffer. A rough surface will accelerate pad wear and increase the risk of noise. An even surface or variations in brake discs(rotor) thickness can cause vibrations, noise and annoying brake pedal pulsations. Brake drums that have grooves or any kind of damage should be replaced immediately.
4) Inspecting wheel bearings (repacking on older vehicles). Lubricate all critical areas such as caliper slides and shoe pads with molly-based high temperature brake grease.
5) Check and adjust the parking brake if necessary.
6) Checking the level and condition of the brake fluid (changing the fluid is recommended to get rid of moisture contamination). The type of brake fluid required will depend on the vehicle application. Always follow the vehicle manufacture recommendations. Bleeding all the brake lines to remove trapped air. Inspecting the entire system for leaks (hoses, lines, wheel cylinders, calipers and master cylinder). Brake hoses in today’s brake systems may have to withstand pressure of up to 2,500lb psi. so make sure there are no cracks, bulges, or damage to the hoses. Calipers and wheel cylinders should be checked for leaks, severe corrosion or damage, and rebuilt or replaced if a problem is found. If a master cylinder is leaking externally or internally (pedal slowly sinks to the floor), it must be rebuilt or replaced. Rebuilding aluminum master cylinders is not recommended.
Inspect the brake pad wear sensor on the pad for cracks or damage. If the warning light is on inside the car prior to inspection it should be replaced.
7)Checking the ABS system, if applicable, (for warning light or trouble codes). Making sure the brake pedal is firm the brakes operate properly, quietly and provide safe stopping power once the job is complete.
Brake Fluid Service
Problem:
Brake fluid becomes oxidized and contaminated over time and use. Heat and moisture cause corrosion on parts and brake fluid failure. This causes a spongy brake pedal and shows up in discolored brake fluid.
Solution:
The entire brake system is inspected for leaks, master cylinder corrosion, worn pneumatic parts, harmful varnish build-up, broken or rusted bleeder valves, worn rotors and drums and air in the brake lines. All old brake fluid is replaced with BG Heavy Duty DOT 3 or DOT 4 Brake Fluid. The result will be a longer lasting, more efficient, safer braking system.

Harmful deposits and varnish build-up—resulting from worn-out, oxidized brake fluid—are apparent on this brake master cylinder piston assembly. |
Stop Squeal Service
Problem:
Brakes that squeal and grind are annoying and need to be quieted or replaced.
Solution:
First, a complete inspection is done to determine the condition of the brake pads, rotors and drums. Worn brake parts are replaced, the calipers are lubricated and a special treatment is added to the pads to prevent squealing. This service will give you peace of mind and a lot less noise every time you stop.
